Valdosta police say a husband and wife were arguing in the parking lot on Norman Drive when a fight erupted just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lt. Aaron Kirk, with the Valdosta Police Department.

Police say the Lowndes County deputy was injured trying to break-up the dispute.

Officers say the suspect is in custody and the deputy was transported to South Georgia Medical Center.

The identities of neither the suspect nor the deputy has been released.
