The holiday season is upon us, but it can also be a stressful time of year.
And those tensions can sometimes boil into domestic violence.
The Haven in Valdosta is an advocacy clinic for victims of domestic violence.
Karen Yawn works at the Haven Clinic and tells Eyewitness News reporter Greg Gullberg that statistics show one in four women is affected by domestic violence.
"Domestic violence is something that affects our community, it happens behind closed doors and it's something that we need to be aware of through the holidays as we're having family gatherings and financial strains on families," Yawn told Gullberg.
There is a 24 hour Crisis Hotline for the state of Georgia.
That number is 1-800-33-Haven (334-2836).
