The Lowndes County Elections Office is welcoming early voters before next Tuesday's runoff election.
Two Republicans, Jody Hall and John Page will square-off for the new Commission seat created by the new Super District 5. Two new Super Districts 4 and 5 were created this year. They over lap the original three.
Four candidates ran for Super District 5. However, none of them managed to capture the majority. Hall and Page are the top two vote getters. The winner in the runoff will go forward to the general election.
There is no Democratic candidate. Unless there is a write-in candidate, the winner will be the next commissioner.
"As to be expected the turnout has not been great, which is typically the case with runoffs," said Will Kendrick of the Lowndes County Elections Board. "You just never can tell, but hopefully Tuesday, on Election Day, we'll get some more people coming out to the polls to vote."
Polls are open for early voting from 7 am to 7 pm ending on Friday at the Elections Board. Then polls will open through out the county on election day, Tuesday, again from 7 am to 7 pm.
