Blood still stains the Mercury Grand Marquis that thirty eight year old Jamie Gaines was shot and killed in Sunday morning around 1AM on 8th Street in Lakeland. The Lakeland Police say he was giving his friend a ride, which ultimately cost him his life.
Darrell Watson is the Lakeland Police Chief. He said "the guy that got shot, we don't think was the intended victim. The intended victim was in the vehicle, from what we found out, he had been pistol whipped and robbed at his house."
Gaines worked at the the local Mozzarella Momma's Pizza Parlor. Authorities say he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and had nothing to do with the robbery.

Gwendolyn Gaines is the victim's mother. She said "I aint ever had no problems out of him. And for him to get killed like he got killed, I can't grasp it."
