ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia Athletic Association is once again teaming up with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia by asking all fans to bring a bag of food or a canned good item to gain admission to the annual G-Day game at Sanford Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Fans are asks to drop their bags of donated canned goods into the receptacles upon entering Sanford Stadium. Bins manned by volunteers will be located at the Main Gate and Gates 2, 4, 6 and 9.

The event marks the sixth annual G-Day Game Food Drive, as the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia works to end hunger in the Athens community.

“Over the past five years, the Bulldog Nation has made it clear how important the fight against hunger is in our community,” said Georgia head coach Mark Richt. “2014 is another opportunity for us to make a difference. Please join us in our support of this great cause.”

Donation stations will also be in place for monetary contributions, and just one dollar equals four pounds of food. All food and proceeds will go to assist families in Northeast Georgia who may not know where their next meal will come from.

Since the start of this annual event, fans have helped the team collect more than 40,000 pounds of food, which has provided more than 50,000 meals to hungry northeast Georgia residents. The team has set a goal to collect 14,000 pounds at Saturday's game, which would provide more than 10,000 meals to Athens families.
