Georgia Emergency Management (GEMA) said more than half of flood victims are in vehicles swept away by moving water and just six inches of fast moving water can knock a person down.
GEMA said many communities experience flooding after a heavy thunderstorm but dam failures can also cause severe floods.
"The best bet is to stay home if at all possible stay off the road don't drive through standing water 6 inches can flood your car,"
said Thomas County EMA Director Lisa Griffis.
Griffis said individuals should always prepare for floods and stay informed.
