Investigators with Georgia State Patrol say the high speed chase started with a routine traffic stop in Alabama.

"The vehicle refused to stop and in the process of him fleeing, struck a law enforcement vehicle in Abbeville and then proceeded to cross Georgia Lines," said Trooper Eric Brinson with Georgia State Patrol.

Behind the wheel was 26 year-old Matthew Bozell. Bozell was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender in Florida, where he's serving probation for sexual battery of a child. The chase came to a halt, alongside Georgia Highway 37 in Camilla., Georgia.

Investigators say Bozell hit speeds over 100 MPH when he misjudged a turn and crashed into a ditch.

Employees at a nearby office said they heard a lot of commotion and came outside to see what was going on."

"The guy flipped and he was in the ditch and he knocked a couple signs over," said Carole Csenar, a Camilla resident who works nearby. "I just wanted to make sure my sign was still up out here; it's still here!"

Phillip Formwalt also works nearby. He added, ""That is very disturbing to have sex offenders out and about without being registered and knowing where they are. You have to watch out for the children. They're our future."

Trooper Brinson said he charged Bozell for driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lanes.

Bozell was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital.

Once released, he will be booked at the Clay County Jail in Fort Gaines, Georgia.

He will also face more charges in the other counties he crossed.
