The Thomas County Health Department says they are seeing heightened numbers of sick children and teens, and in the southwest Georgia district, 133 confirmed cases of influenza have already been reported.

Medical staff say though the flu season is underway, it's not too late to get vaccinated, and they encourage anyone over the age of 6 months to get the shot.

In addition to getting vaccinated, the health department recommends frequent hand washing and staying away from others who are already sick.
