News Release: Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority
June 27, 2014
A new King and Queen will get their crowns tonight at VLPRA’s annual prom event for individuals with disabilities. The royalty will have a nautical flair, since this year’s theme is “Under the Sea”.
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority’s Therapeutics division has been hosting the formal event for five years. Therapeutics Coordinator Tammy Crosby says she expects this year’s dance to be the best yet.
“We’re thrilled to hold Prom for the sixth year in a row,” Crosby said. "Many of our participants never got the chance to go to a school prom, so it’s a fun opportunity for them to get dressed up and attend a formal event.”
VLPRA’s prom is open to any individual with a disability, regardless of age or ability. Tickets are only $7.00 and are available at This Link, at VLPRA’s main office on Forrest Street, and at the event itself.
Prom runs from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, June 27th at Mathis Auditorium. VLPRA will provide music and light snacks. A professional photographer will be available from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM for prom photos.
