Former Lowndes Co. Commissioner Dies

Robert Carter, 86, died at his home after an illness over the weekend.

He served as the sheriff of Lowndes County for 18 years and as the district three commissioner for 10 years.

Friends say Carter was a mentor to many and really cared about people and making the community a better place.

He's survived by three daughters, eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
