News Release: Southside Recreation Center
June 27, 2014
The theme for Southside Recreation Center's Fun and Fitness Day this year was “Do the Right Thing.” Fun and Fitness Day is an annual event that was created by Southside Recreation Center with an aim of reducing childhood obesity. The aim will be met by emphasizing the importance of increasing physical activity, nutritious eating habits, and living a drug free life. Fun and Fitness Day highlights the importance of wholesome and healthy lifestyle choices for today’s youth.
Team and individual activities and events were planned for youth ages 5-17. About 400 children attended. The group that won the most points overall will have their agency’s name added to the Fun and Fitness Day trophy. The winning agency will be allowed to showcase the trophy at their organization until next year’s events.
Throughout the day, a variety of vendors were on-site giving out information that promoted healthy lifestyle choices and the services offered by the agencies.
