Funeral arrangements are still in the works for a South Georgia police chief who died while on duty. Barwick Police Chief Chief Anthony Barfield died Tuesday night from an apparent heart attack.
His funeral could be as early as Tuesday , but the family has not yet finalized a date. Chief Barfield had been in law enforcement for roughly twenty years. He was appointed chief in Barwick in 2009.
Barwick Mayor Ned Simmons said "he would work with the juveniles and the younger bunch. There's no recreation center here and he policed but he also did a lot of other things and taught and educated a bunch of the youth and adults."
Chief Barfield was just 47 years old.
