Jones County officials say they've reached a deal to supply rural residents with water.
County Administrator Mike Underwood says an agreement has been
reached to pipe water from Baldwin County to rural Jones County residents.
Underwood says before construction can begin, Jones County needs
at least 10 households in the affected area to pay a $1,310 tap and deposit fee. He says there are 14 homes in the area, and 12 of them have water problems.
He says a grant from the state Department of Community Affairs will cover about one-fourth of the $88,000 cost of the project.
Underwood says residents of the area will pay more for water than residents of other parts of the county, but the cost could come down if more residents sign up.
