Thomasville, Georgia---October 1, 2012
Some preschoolers had a special visitor Monday morning.
Darlene Taylor, the State Representative for Georgia House Seat 173, stopped by the Hand In Hand Primary School in Thomasville.
During her visit, she read books to the three and four year-olds to help kick off Georgia's Pre-K Week.
The state-wide event hopes to stress the importance of education at an early age.
"This is their foundation," said Taylor. "You need to have any leg up we can. Some of the problems that we have in jobs and getting people educated and ready, it starts in pre-k. Reading takes a child wherever they want to go."
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Georgia's pre-k system.
Since the state started the program, pre-k classes have educated more than one million kids!
