ATLANTA (AP) -- A Georgia Department of Labor official has been elected to serve as president of the National Association of Unemployment Insurance Appeals Professionals.
Officials say chief of the department's Appeals Tribunal, Alice Mitchell, was elected to serve as the national organization's president during a recent training conference in Los Angeles.
The organization is made up of state labor officials who oversee the unemployment insurance appeals process. Appeals typically arise when there's a dispute between a laid-off employee and former employers on unemployment eligibility.
Officials say the Georgia Appeals Tribunal has won four awards from the U.S. Department of Labor since 2007 for excellence in the appeals process.
Before coming to Georgia, Mitchell worked as director of the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission's Appellate Division for 10 years.
