Associated Press Release
ATLANTA (AP) -- Fulton County District Attorney's officials say a convicted rapist has been sentenced to life in prison.
District Attorney's spokeswoman Yvette Jones says 52-year-old John Sims was sentenced Thursday for attacking a woman outside her home in June 2012. Officials have said Sims, who was homeless, approached the 33-year-old woman who offered him assistance several times outside her house in southeast Atlanta.
Jones says the woman turned to go inside after speaking to Sims and he grabbed her around the neck, which caused her to lose consciousness.
The woman told investigators she later awoke in her driveway and was raped. Jones says Sims threatened to kill the woman if she told anyone, and he demanded money from her before he fled the scene.
He was later arrested in an abandoned building.
