ATLANTA (AP) -- Gov. Nathan Deal's administration won permission to spend $45 million on water projects, including three reservoirs it contends could help alleviate a tri-state water dispute.
A state board voted Wednesday to approve up to $40 million in funding for the Glades Reservoir in Hall County, the Indian Creek Reservoir in Carroll County and the Richland Creek Reservoir in Paulding County.
It will also pursue a $5 million water desalination test project.
The financial terms must still be negotiated with local officials.
Deal has proposed building reservoirs to boost Georgia's water supply. Georgia has been in a long-running dispute with Alabama and Florida over regional water use. Last month, Florida asked the U.S. Supreme Court to decide how much water Georgia can take from a river system serving all three states.
