Associated Press Release
AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- An east Georgia woman is charged with stealing more than $267,000 from her neighborhood association.
Authorities say 46-year-old Laurie Wainwright Vanover is charged with multiple counts of theft in Columbia County.
She says she's innocent of the charges.
The Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/18Lr6eI ) reports that Vanover is a former treasurer of the Stratford Community Association in Evans.
The subdivision has 491 homes, and the association maintains a community pool, a park and an activity field.
Association president Tom Gorta reported that money was missing in December, and Vanover surrendered to police in May.
A grand jury indicted Vanover last month, and she pleaded not guilty to felony charges on Thursday.
Vanover is accused of using an ATM card, a debit card and checks to pay personal debts with association money.
