December's unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent an almost three percent increase from November. The Georgia Department of Labor said almost three-thousand Georgians were unemployed in December and nearly eighty--thousand workers were laid off. South Georgia residents said people in the area are hurting for employment.

"I know a lot of people who don't have jobs and it's hard to get a job just in fast food because a lot of us are either over qualified or not.qualified,' said Moultrie Resident Jennifer Hayes.

The Georgia Department of Labor said this is the 39th consecutive month the state has exceeded the national unemployment rate.

the uneployment bill got passed so the rich could get tax breaks for the next 2 years. it did not do anything for the long term uneployed just the newely uneployed. so the gov. helped people hang on for 99 weeks and just threw them in the garbage. the filthy rich always winn's in 2 years they will get another tax break. the billioneers dont need a tax break. there are people still being layed off. you can talk trash about the uneployed if you want to but you are next. the business that still have their doors open are struggling to hold on. the smart one's shut their business down at the beginning before the lost every penny holding on.
