Georgia's Sheriff's Stand Against Bill Limiting Criminal Property Seizures

-- Valdosta, Ga. -- March 7, 2013 --

A large number of Georgia's Sheriff's are standing against a bill that limits the seizure of criminal property.

The bill, called House Bill One, would make it more difficult for law enforcement to seize and condemn the property of drug dealers. The sheriff's have gathered in Atlanta where the bill went before the House Judiciary Committee.

Brooks County Sheriff Mike Dewey said "you can buy the guns, cars, bullet proof vests.. You know any kind of equipment and training for the department from drug seizures where if we don't have that money to look at then the only other way is tax payer money."

The aim of House Bill One is to protect the rights of citizens even if they are convicted criminals.
