-- Valdosta, Ga. -- April 3, 2012 --

Harvey's Supermarkets has donated over 41,000 pounds of apples to Second Harvest. The organization combats hunger in South Georgia.

The donation is a combination of golden and granny smith apples. The Director of Agency Relations for Second Harvest spoke about the scale of the donation.

Ryan Gandy said "It's probably one of the largest donations we've had in terms of fresh fruit. So it makes a big impact on our after school programs. Um, it just helps us feed the kids with a more nutritous meal."

In total Harvey's gave nearly 157-thousand apples to Second Harvest of South Georgia.
