ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Police have charged a homeless man with
fatally strangling another man at a tent city in Athens.
Joseph Craft was arrested Friday and charged with murdering
60-year-old Larry David last week.
Investigators did not initially consider the death suspicious. But the Athens Banner-Herald reports that an autopsy showed a bone in David's neck was fractured because he was strangled.
Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman said the suspect fought with the victim. Holeman said investigators have learned a motive for the fight, but he would not divulge it.
Craft was being held without bond Saturday in the Clarke County Jail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
David's death was the first homicide in Clarke County this year.
