Valdosta, GA - Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens says if your home is damaged by the extreme cold, you may get financial relief through your homeowners policy.
Local State Farm Agent, Angie Crawford, says the problem is, many people don't know what exactly is covered in their policy and frozen water pipes are common this time of year.
"With the homeowners insurance policy, frozen pipes typically are covered. You just need to know if anything does happen, first thing definitely, is to cut the water off. But then call the plumber and turn around and call your insurance agent."
Crawford says if you aren't sure if a frozen or busted water pipe is covered in your homeowners insurance policy, your best bet is to call your insurance agent to avoid a headache and a hefty bill.
