Valdosta, GA - A lot of planning goes into hosting a big event on your property, but have you thought about possible fines? You might want to check with local officials ahead of time.
Lowndes County officials say plenty of folks have been breaking the rules. They require a Special Event Permit for outdoor events like concerts, ATV races, etc.. The point is to protect the host from other violations.
"It's important for a citizen's own protection that before they have an event, they come in and meet with the county and get some information. And then they can move forward," said Paige Dukes, Lowndes County spokeswoman.
There's no cost for these permits. But there is a 3 to 4 week waiting period.
