Thomasville, GA- Hundreds of people in our area are coming together to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.

Volunteers from Hands on Thomas County and America's Second Harvest of South Georgia spent the day gearing up for Monday's celebration.

The day of service will include a food drive to feed more than 150 families and a community beautification project.

"What we're trying to do is promote Dr. King's commitment to the community and honor his legacy of commitment to the community by promoting opportunity for all, and that's really what he was looking for," said Joseph Newborn, the program director for Hands on Thomas County.

Volunteers will work from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday and then to wrap up the day of service, they're invited to take a tour of the Jack Hadley Black History Museum in Thomasville.
