By the end of the week, Valdosta State's campus will be packed again.

So far, its 850 freshmen have moved into six residence halls.

Come Sunday, the upperclassmen will be moved into Langdale, Brown and Lowndes Halls.

For the next two days, hundreds of college freshman are descending on one south Georgia city.

While 17-year-old Kayla Volk, of Roswell, GA, gives her boyfriend one last kiss, she says, "I'm just nervous leaving my family, I guess like being on my own four hours away."

Dan, Zach and their moms are toting the boys' belongings to their home away from home, Patterson Hall.

"I'm excited," says Zach Green, 18, of Cumming, GA, "I'm ready to experience college life and meet new people."

Dan McDowell, 18, also from Cumming, GA, adds, "I'm a little nervous but I'm ready to meet new people, hang out and experience the college life."

And it all begins, now, for the 850 Valdosta State freshman moving into six residence halls this week. They're embarking on a four-year adventure that will change their lives.

"You're on your own," says Russel Mast, the vice president of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. "You have a lot of freedom. So, mom and dad aren't there to get you up in the morning, remind you to study. So we say to make sure to study first and then have fun later."

With one caveat...

"That they do the right thing," says Barbara Green, a mom from Cumming, GA, "That's what you got a roommate for to pull one back when they might be making stupid decisions."

Upperclassmen will move in Friday through Sunday.

Classes begin on August 15.
