More information is released about the acquisition of a private south Georgia hospital. In a meeting with hospital officials on May 17, they explained that South Georgia Medical Center is in the 60-day due diligence period of reviewing Smith Northview. This includes checking its doctors' credentials and medical files to make sure everything is in order. For now, officials say Smith Northview will keep its name as it transitions into an SGMC campus.
"We don't have a heart center at Smith Northview. We'll be able to work together hopefully instead of there again having the out migration -- bring those patients back into the community," says Sam Lewis, Smith Northview Hospital Chairman.
The transformation sale of Smith Northview to a not-for-profit hospital under SGMC is July 15th.
