A group of Thomas County prisoners assembled bags of food to distribute to those in need on Thursday.
The event was a partnership between the Thomas County Prison and the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council.
Despite the rain, those who received food packages say they couldn't be happier or more grateful.
Herman Lurry is one Thomas County resident the food distribution is helping.
Says Lurry, "So many people are out of jobs and everything -- and income, just got a little, a little rough on everybody. And I really appreciate the help they're doing for us today in Thomas County."
The Southwest Georgia Community Action Council works in 18 counties in the region to help those in need.
The council holds an annual food giveaway in each of its counties, using federal aid money and food from the USDA.
