The prisoners were all smiles as they tie-dyed t-shirts, painted decorations and baked cookies for the Grady County Sheriff's Office Relay for Life team.

The jail's administrator, Capt. Tim Gainous, says in addition to helping a good cause, the volunteer work can also be 'therapeutic.'

Says Gainous, "We find that inmates are so often self-centered. They can only think of themselves - that's usually what got them in here - and this gives them an opportunity to ... do something good for somebody else."

The Relay for Life started at 6 o'clock Friday evening at Cairo High School and will run until midnight.
