Decatur County, Georgia- July 24, 2012
Reports of a jury duty telephone scam are swirling in one local town.
Decatur County Clerk of Courts, Cecilia Willis, says at least two people have received the fraudulent calls.
The callers claim that the person failed to report to jury duty and now must pay a $500 fine over the phone, hoping to gain access to their checking accounts or credit card information.
Willis warns against giving this information over the phone.
She says if you do fail to report for jury duty, you will never receive a phone call. Instead a sheriff's deputy will come to your house.
