Just off US 41, 21 cooking teams grilled and basted ribs for Lake Dog's sixth annual Rib Cookoff.

First, second and third place trophies were awarded for the best ribs.

As well as a trophy for best theme and a raffle to win a golf cart.

Local bands played familiar tunes to the aroma and sounds of sizzling ribs cooked to perfection.

"The ribs are excellent," said Jimmy Holmes, who comes every year and owns H Two Marketing in Valdosta. "In fact, they're some of the best ribs you're gonna find anywhere. We've got 21 teams out here that are participating. And they've been out here all morning cooking these ribs and they'll melt in your mouth."

All proceeds benefit the Georgia Sheriffs' Boys Ranch.

Organizers hope to raise $20,000.
