It now moves to the state Senate for consideration.

A bill to shorten the early voting period in Georgia is on the table this legislative session.

The House of Representatives has removed a provision that would require polls to be open on Saturdays, if no federal or state candidates are on the ballot.

The bill moves to the Governmental Affairs Committee for consideration.

Some state lawmakers want to change the advanced voting window from 45 to 21 days for all elections.

Opponents of the measure say a three-week voting period would decrease access to the polls, especially for larger counties.

Whereas, proponents say this would benefit smaller counties that are cash-strapped and lack the man power to monitor polls for four weeks.

"During a special election, when there's traditionally a smaller amount of voting, the 21 days I think is adequate," said Lowndes County voter Tiffany Linkswiler.

Other area residents like Wallace Allbritton disagree, "We need the 45 days in Lowndes County because of the number of people that we vote here. And 21 days is maybe fine in the smaller counties but in the larger counties like Lowndes, we need time to get the people in"

The bill is making its way through committees.

If it's signed into law, it would require polls to be open at least one Saturday during the early voting period.

There should be a 5 day a week recall option. That way any time a voter feels disfranchised, they can cast a recall vote. If at any time during the incumbents term a majority is met, that elected official is gone.

And what did people do about voting when there was only one day to vote manually or use absentee ballots? Early voting should be able to be accomplished in seven days or less.
