Atlanta, GA (AP) - A committee created to discuss possible
immigration legislation for Georgia held its final meeting to
Co-chair Rep. Matt Ramsey said after Thursday's meeting that he
and co-chair Sen. Jack Murphy will likely each introduce an
immigration bill. He said one or two other bills may also come out
of the committee.
The committee of 14 Republican lawmakers heard from several
speakers Thursday. Ramsey has said the committee aims to fill any
gaps in Georgia's laws governing immigration and add enforcement
tools to laws already on the books.
Sen. Nan Orrock of Atlanta and Rep. Virgil Fludd of Tyrone, both
Democrats, held a news conference just before Thursday's meeting to
call for a comprehensive study on the economic impact of potential
