A Brooks County man has been sentenced to life in prison for murder.

Judge Richard Cowart sentenced Frederick Gee to life in prison. Gee's crime -- Shooting his girlfriend to death on Thanksgiving Day of 2010. Our camera was the only one rolling in the court room.

Judge Cowart: "It's the sentence of the court as to count one that you serve a period of life in prison."

Frederick Gee was convicted in the Thanksgiving 2010 killing of his then girlfriend Julie Samuel. The shooting occurred in the 900 block of West Hill Avenue in Quitman. Nearly two years later, Gee was sentenced. Because it's a life sentence he will serve a minimum of 30 years in prison before being eligible for parole. Despite getting that news his expression stayed the same.

Rockie Hadley, Brother-in-Law: "he's handling it strong. And and I wouldn't expect any different. He's a strong guy."

Prosecutors say that Gee and his girlfriend had a passionate relationship and often argued... until Gee took it a step further.

Brad Shealy, Prosecutor: "he just hauled off and shot her I think 6, 7, 8 times. And it's just one of those situations where you have that temper and you have access to a gun and before you realized what you're doing you've done shot somebody."

Chevene King, Defense Attorney: "they had had their difficulties but unfortunately it culminated in this young lady losing her life."

Delvin Boatman, Pastor: "there's clearly no winners in this case, you know, I think it's difficult for both families."

Gee has already served 2 years in jail. Meaning it will be another 28 years before he will be eligible for parole.
