Officers say the little girl fell in the mud after attempting to grab a turtle at the collapsed spillway in Cherokee Lake Park.

Officers say they don't know the girl's exact age, but say she wasn't older than 11.

"I think the city should be responsible and put up signs letting people know they'll sink in it.," says Thomasville resident Hank Rogers.

Officers say the little girl was unharmed and they were able to rescue her out of the mud with the help of several other agencies.

Officers say they urge those who are using the park to be careful and take precautions until the spillway is fixed.

It figures. Another case of the parents not parenting. Could not the parents go to her rescue? This was an expensive rescue for citizens.

The city's fault? How about the irresponsible parents who did not keep an eye on their child? THEY should be held responsible.

I was there walking around the park just as this happened. This girl was walking around with her family, several younger children were also in the mud at the same time, but came out. This child was enjoying the attention and had no problem getting un stuck after fire and rescue arrived. Another case of severe lack of discipline and very poor adult supervision.
