Thomasville, GA- Let the games begin! Local students kicked off the 2012 Winter Special Olympics.
At an opening ceremony at Thomas County Central High on Thursday, dozens of special education students came out to have some fun.
Students from Grady County and Colquitt County also came out to compete against one another.
Thursday's big event was basketball.
Organizers say the kids look forward to this every year.
"The kids, the athletes, it gives them an opportunity to show off their skills. Their basketball skills, their bowling skills to their peers, and to their family and friends," said Greer Cox, the Branch Director For Butler-Mason YMCA.
Organizers say throughout the year they receive donations to help make this event possible.
The Special Olympic Games will continue Friday in Moultrie.
