The Thomasville Police Department is seeing an increase in the number of reported sexual assaults.

According to the Thomasville Police Department, there were 37 total reported sexual assaults for 2011.

This year, with three more months still left to go, the number of sexual assault reports is already higher, at 38.

So far, two men have been charged with rape and are currently being held in the Thomas County Jail, however, no arrests have been made yet in the other incidents.

Thomasville police are encouraging residents to be extra cautious.

Lieutenant Eric Hampton advises, "Not accepting rides from people they do not know; if they are suspicious of someone who may be in the neighborhood, report it to the police department so we can know who we are dealing with."

The number to the Thomasville Police Department is (229)- 227-3249.

Lieutenant Hampton says sexual assault can range from statutory rape to illegal touching.
