Students in Thomas County and Thomasville headed back to the classroom for their first day of school on Monday.
Law enforcement officials were on site at Cross Creek Elementary school to direct traffic as dozens of parents came to drop off and pick up their children.
Starting Aug. 1st, Cross Road will be a one way street between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., as well as 2 p.m. through 3:30 p.m. to ensure student safety.
"It makes it real safe for them and the one way on this road makes it so you don't have to watch for back and forth traffic and it slows everybody down," said mother Samantha Tyler.
Captain Steve Jones with the Thomas County Sheriff's Department urged drivers to, "Watch for other drivers, watch for the walkers coming out from behind parked cars on the shoulder and hang up. Please hang up the phone while you're in the school zones. Do not text."
Captain Jones said there were no reported accidents Monday morning and although traffic was heavy, transportation went smoothly.
