Thomasville, Georgia-September 11, 2012

Students and staff at Thomas University gathered Tuesday morning to remember the victims who lost their lives September 11, 2001.

"I started finding myself becoming very emotional whenever I'd hear the Anthem and just thinking of those guys representing our country, and that's when I really started thinking, 'I want to do something bigger with my life,'" said Jonathan Fallin.

For Fallin, that "something bigger" meant serving two tours overseas as a U.S. Army Captain, shortly after the horrific terrorist attacks on September 11th.

He addressed the crowd at Thomas University, sharing stories about his time in Afghanistan and remembering all those who lost their lives.

"I have a best friend, and her mother died in 9/11, so it means a lot," said Bria Joyner-Williams, a Thomas University student. "For me, to come and attend this ceremony, and somebody actually speak about it, it means a lot."

Breana Pullara is also a student at Thomas University. She added, "I just really hope that we keep in mind all the people that passed away on this day, and all the people that sacrificed their lives and continue to sacrifice their lives so that we can continue to live in freedom."

Fallin says he hopes folks can remember those feelings of patriotism and unity that they felt 11 years ago.

"There are hundreds of thousands of people that have served or are currently still serving overseas and everyday it's a battle for those guys, and just remember them," he said.

The ceremony also included an Honor Guard Procession by the Thomasville High School Air Force JROTC.

At the end of the ceremony, everyone released balloons as a symbol of hope and understanding.
