Thomas County Commissioner Louis Rehberg died on April 25 in his home on Bustle Road from what deputies believe was a heart attack .

Rehberg served as vice chairman of the Thomas County Board of Commissioners. The Thomas County Supervisor of Elections says a special election will be held to fill his vacant seat in either September or November.

"After we make the call for election, we will open up a qualifying period. It's usually about a week. Then we'll know for definite who's running," says Thomas County Supervisor of Elections Anna Amiss.

Amiss says the actual election date has not been determined just yet.
A man South Georgia residents consider a hard-worker and philanthropist is laid to rest Thursday afternoon.

Funeral services for 67-year-old Louis Rehberg took place at First Baptist Church in Thomasville. Local dignitaries came out to show their last respects to their commissioner. Rehberg died Monday (4/25) night in his home on Bustle Road. He is survived by four children and and his wife Vanette.

"When I heard he passed a way it really got to me simply because he and I ate at the same restaurant together sitting next to each other the same day he passed away," said Thomasville Police Officer Eric Hampton.

Rehberg was serving his second term as commissioner before he passed away.

"We weren't here more than two days before he stopped and welcomed us in," says Tim Sherrod, a neighbor of Louis Rehberg.

Neighbors of Louis Rehberg say they didn't know the Thomas County commissioner died at his home Monday night, but they say his kind acts won't be forgotten.

Those who knew Rehburg say they're just being modest when they use words like nice, kind and dedicated when describing the
hard-working commissioner.

"I worked very closely with him since he's been on the board on all sorts of county issues," says Thomas County Manager Michael Stephenson.

Thomas County deputies say Rehberg died at about 9:20 Monday (4/25) night at his home on Bustle Road. Deputies say they believe he died from a heart attack. Rehberg was vice chairman of the board and served Thomas County for six years. At the time of his death, he was in his second term.

"We're all shocked by the untimely death of Louis. His family was very, very definitely a part of his life that he thoroughly enjoyed," says county commissioner Elaine Mays.

WCTV reached out to Rehberg's family who declined to comment, but just as their father would have it they were very welcoming upon our arrival.

Commissioner Rehberg is survived by his wife and four children. Family members say funeral arrangements are set for Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Thomasville.

A Thomas County Commissioner was found dead in his home on Bustle Road in Thomas County, according to the Thomas County Sheriff's Office.

Thomas County Commissioner Louis Rehberg was found dead. Deputies say the death appears to be of natural causes (heart attack). He was found in his recliner.

    my heart goes out to mr. rehberg's family. i have known louis for many years. he WILL be missed. louis was one of the "few" who actually practiced in doing good and helping the people of thomas county.
