Claretha Reams is seventy one years old. Years ago she promised her mother that she would get her GED. That promise is now being honored.
Eyewitness News reporter Eames Yates asked her "was there ever a time when you wanted to give up?"
She replied saying "There were... but I never did."
After 18 years she was finally awarded her GED by the Wiregrass Technical College in Valdosta.
Her Grandson Monte said "she has set an example for me, my brother, my sister, my nieces and nephews, the younger generation. You know, to always stay focused and positive and everything else will come."
Caretha said "I'm sharing it with my family and my friends and everyone else that helped me. And I hope they take into consideration what I'm saying: how important education is."
The ceremony was held Wednesday evening.
