Lowndes County Sheriff's Captain Retires After 45 Years On The Force

On Friday afternoon, Sheriff Chris Prine hosted a reception honoring the service of Captain Carl Smith who is retiring from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office after 45 years of service.

Captain Smith began with the Sheriff’s Office as an auxiliary deputy and was soon hired full time. Captain Smith has served in many positions but was most recently the Captain of the offices Court Division and supervised the deputies responsible for the security and safety of the various courts and court buildings within Lowndes County.

Captain Smith is well known for his dedication in escorting the Valdosta High School band throughout the years which he did as a volunteer service.

Sheriff Prine offered Captain Smith his sincere appreciation for his dedicated service not only to the Sheriff’s Office but also to the community. Sheriff Prine stated that Captain Smith’s leadership and friendship will be missed by the agency but offered congratulations to Captain Smith as he begins his retirement.
