Emergency officials say only about a third of Lowndes County is signed up for Code Red and it could be a life-saving service.
"Sign up for Code Red," says Ashley Tye, Lowndes County's emergency management director. "It's a free service here in Lowndes County, so they can get free alerts on their telephone anytime there's severe weather approaching."
The last hurricane to impact Lowndes County was Hurricane Fay in 2008.
