Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 as a way of paying tribute to those who fought and died for our freedom.

Flags were put up around Lowndes County including around the old courthouse.

Officials say this is a way to celebrate everything America stands for.

"It's an important day to recognize to think about the people who fought and died for our freedom and to protect our flag, to give our citizens an opportunity to recognize as well," says Lowndes County Spokesperson Paige Dukes.

Dukes says with Lowndes County being a military community, it's especially important to pay tribute.
