Monday morning, the commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to include two new voting districts.
Lowndes County Commissioner Joyce Evans says by increasing the number of commissioners from three to five will give those areas better representation, something she says she's proud about.
"Well, I am excited about the expansion. I sure hope that it goes through with no problems and I am sure all the new commissioners coming in, we are excited to know we will have new commissioners joining us maybe in the next two years," said Evans.
Lowndes County says there are more than 100,000 residents in the area.
Each commissioner currently represents more than 35,000 people.
The resolution will become final if the Georgia Assembly votes in favor of it during the 2011 legislative session..
