Man Arrested Breaking Into Vehicles In Valdosta

On September 13, 2013, at approximately 7:30 a.m. a person called 911 to report suspicious activity in the parking lot located at 100 North Toombs Street.

The witness was able to describe a suspicious male attempting to open car doors on various vehicles parking in the lot. Upon arrival at the parking lot, a VPD officer located a vehicle that had been opened. Another VPD officer located a male matching the description of the person seen tampering with the vehicle.

The male ran from the area on foot but was apprehended a short distance away. The male initially gave the officers a false name and the witness was subsequently able to identify him as the person who was seen going from car to car checking door handles and then entering one of the vehicles.

Christopher Davis, 20 year old Valdosta resident was arrested and has been charged with one count of Entering Automobile to Commit Theft or Felony and one count of Giving False Name to a law enforcement officer. Davis was interviewed by officers and detectives. He is currently being held at the Lowndes County Jail pending court proceedings.

If anyone witnesses what they believe to be suspicious criminal activity or a crime taking place, please call 911 immediately and provide the dispatcher with as much information about the suspect as safely possible. This is a good example of a citizen being proactive and helping safeguard their community and fellow citizens.
