Press Release: Valdosta Police Department
On October 10, 2013 at approximately 8:22 pm, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the railroad crossing on the 300 block of S. Forrest Street in reference to the report of a pedestrian being struck by a train. Officers arrived and found the victim, a 16 year old juvenile, with a severe injury to his right leg.
The victim was transported by EMS to SGMC and was later transferred to Shands Medical Center. According to witnesses the train had stopped on the tracks and the victim tried to crawl under the train to get to the other side.
The train started and the victim, who was dragging a bicycle, could not get out from under the train in time, and his leg was run over by one of the wheels. At this time, we do not have any update on the condition of the victim.
