Around 3 p.m. Sunday, Charles Kelly, 80, fired shots at a family of four on Old Clyattville Road, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine.

They say both Kelly and the family were traveling north when Kelly sped up to them in his car and began shooting from his window.

Deputies say Kelly, who may be mentally unstable, is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and remains at the Lowndes County Jail.

GA Code for "attempted murder" equates to "aggravated assault". There is no verbage in the GA Code for attempted murder. It will probably be presented to include the firearm usage.

For some reason it is very hard for Law Enforcement to press charges for attempted murder. I know someone that was shot and the shooter was charged with "aggravated assault with a deadly weapon".

Probably was attempted murder. I've met this guy, he's a raving bigot and claimed to be in the KKK. Bet it was an african-american family he was shooting at. I'm so glad they are ok. This could have been such a terrible tragedy.
