More than 100 commanders and personnel gathered to break ground on the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing and 23rd Mission Support Group headquarters building.

Situated next to the 23rd Wing's building, the base's newest addition will bring both wings, the 23rd and the 93rd Air Ground Operations wings, closer to each other.

"The commanders will no longer have to hotfoot between three different locations when an accident occurs," said
Aubrey Gill, the project manager. "And that is a real large function of the new building."

"It'll be a more efficient organization for the office space, for the command post, for the classified and unclassified things that we do in the building," added Bill Bryan, Moody AFB's chief engineer.

The new headquarters costs $10 million and is slated to open April 2012.
