The state of Georgia is teaming up with daycare providers to make sure parents and children get top notch services.
It's part of a new rating system.

Most parents can agree, leaving your child in the care of someone else can be quite stressful...

Miranda Belcher, mother in Thomasville, GA: "Even family, you can't trust everybody-- but it's nerve racking to leave your kids with someone that you don't really know."

Governor Nathan Deal however is hoping to ease the nerves of parents across Georgia with the help of the The Quality Rating and Improvement System.

Here's how it works:

Day care providers volunteer to have their center rated with one, two or three stars. Then, parents can go online to decal.ga.gov. There, they'll find a datebase with all of the counties in georgia and a list of the centers participating, like The Building Blocks Child Care Center in Lowndes County which received three stars.

"I've done it for 20 years and I do whatever I can to make my business a better day care for the children."

On Tuesday, Governor Deal honored the more than 230 child care programs that have volunteered to be rated so far. He's also offering incententives to get the others on board!

They include:

-Extra money for providers to buy new supplies.
-Rated centers can also receive money for staff bonuses
-as well as an increase in state and federal reimbursements.

Stars are awarded based on a combination of points gathered from an independent observation and a portfolio that shows the program goes above and beyond what licensing requires.
